In the six-round Olympic javelin final, each athlete’s best throw determines rank. Neeraj Chopra won gold, Jakub Vadlejch silver, Vitezlav Vesely bronze. (i) Chopra dominated rounds 1–2, with his gold-winning throw in round 2; neither other athlete had a medal-winning throw then. (ii) Vadlejch and Vesely fouled in round 6. (iii) After four rounds Vesely was second and did not improve later. (iv) Vadlejch’s fourth throw was the best throw of round 4. In which round was Vesely’s best throw?

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) Third

Explanation

Vesely’s best was not in rounds 1–2 by (i), and not after round 4 by (iii). If it were round 4, Vadlejch’s better throw that round would already place Vadlejch ahead, contradicting Vesely’s second place after four rounds. Thus it was **round 3, A**.
