GATE 2022 AG – Question 22

Engineering Mathematics · Calculus · 1 mark · Numerical answer

Find the slope of $f(x)=2x^4-3x^2+5x$ at x=2. Give an integer.

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: 57 to 57

Explanation

Differentiate each term: $f^{\prime}(x)=8x^3-6x+5$. At x=2 this is $8(8)-12+5=\mathbf{57}$. The requested slope is the derivative, not the function value or a secant slope.
