A straight line intercepts the x-axis at −0.5 and y-axis at 1. Its equation is

  1. $y=-0.5x+1$
  2. $y=x-0.5$
  3. $y=0.5x-1$
  4. $y=2x+1$

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (D) $y=2x+1$

Explanation

The two points are $(-0.5,0)$ and $(0,1)$. The slope is $(1-0)/(0+0.5)=2$, and the y intercept is 1. Therefore the equation is y = 2x + 1, D. Substituting x = −0.5 gives y = 0, confirming the other intercept.
