The GATE Grind

GATE 2020 CH – Question 18

Instrumentation and Process Control · Measurement of process variables, sensors, transducers and P&ID symbols · 1 mark · Multiple choice

A hot-wire anemometer measures

  1. Composition
  2. Flow
  3. Pressure
  4. Temperature

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (B) Flow

Explanation

The electrically heated wire loses heat to the moving fluid. Its cooling rate depends on flow velocity; changes in wire resistance or required heating power are calibrated against that velocity. Thus the instrument measures flow, B. Temperature affects its calibration, but is not the target quantity in this use.
