GATE 2025 BM – Question 65

Mammalian Cell Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology · Circulatory System · 2 marks · Numerical answer

At rest, cardiac output is 5 L/min and mean aortic pressure 100 mmHg. In exercise output doubles and mean aortic pressure rises to 110 mmHg. Neglect venous pressure. Find percentage decrease in systemic peripheral resistance, nearest integer.

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: 45 to 45

Explanation

Peripheral resistance is pressure difference divided by flow. Resting value is 100/5=20; exercise value is 110/10=11 in the same units. Fractional decrease is (20−11)/20=9/20=0.45, hence a forty-five percent decrease.
