The compressor rotor velocity triangles are shown. Axial velocity is 60 m/s, inlet absolute-flow angle is 30° from the axial direction, blade speed is 100 m/s and the exit relative whirl magnitude is 40 m/s in the direction shown. Find work input in kJ/kg (two decimal places).
The inlet absolute whirl is $c_{\theta1}=60\tan30°=34.641$ m/s. Exit relative whirl opposes blade motion, so $c_{\theta2}=100-40=60$ m/s. Euler work is $U(c_{\theta2}-c_{\theta1})=100(60-34.641)=2535.9$ J/kg = 2.54 kJ/kg.
