Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (D) His latest movie was not commercially successful.

Explanation

“If his latest movie had been …, the actor would have …” is a past counterfactual construction. In the ordinary reading intended here, the commercial success did not occur, so the answer is **D**.

The sentence does not promise sponsorship of the next movie. Nor does failure of this particular condition prove that the actor could not have obtained enough money from some other source. The intended inference comes from the counterfactual wording; an ordinary conditional alone would not allow us to infer that its antecedent is false.
