GATE 2026 ME – Question 26

Fluid Mechanics · Bernoulli's equation and fluid acceleration · 1 mark · Multiple choice

Bernoulli's equation CANNOT be applied between

  1. any two arbitrary points in the flow field for steady incompressible rotational flow
  2. any two arbitrary points in the flow field for steady incompressible irrotational flow
  3. any two points along a streamline for steady incompressible flow
  4. any two points along a streamline for steady incompressible rotational flow

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) any two arbitrary points in the flow field for steady incompressible rotational flow

Explanation

Bernoulli's equation holds along a streamline for steady incompressible flow, whether the flow is rotational or not (options C and D). For irrotational flow it holds between any two points (option B). In rotational flow it cannot be used between points on different streamlines, which is option A.
