The sample average of 50 data points is 40. The updated sample average after including a new data point taking the value of 142 is ______.

Correct answer: 42
Explanation
The sum of the 50 points is $50 \times 40 = 2000$. With the new point the sum is $2142$ for 51 points, so the new average is $\frac{2142}{51} = 42$.
