Correct answer: (B) Response substitution; (D) Information and expectation

Explanation

The theoretical explanations of classical conditioning are the stimulus (response) substitution view, in which the conditioned stimulus takes over the response of the unconditioned one, and the information or expectation view, in which the conditioned stimulus tells the animal what is coming. Spontaneous recovery and stimulus generalization are phenomena that the theories try to explain.
