Aerodynamics · Special topics: Fanno flow, Rayleigh flow, U-tube manometers and Pitot probe · 1 mark · Multiple select

A flow is steady, inviscid and one-dimensional, with no shaft work or body forces. Which of the following is/are possible under the given conditions?

  1. Oblique shocks
  2. Sound propagation
  3. Rayleigh flow
  4. Fanno flow

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (C) Rayleigh flow

Explanation

Rayleigh flow is steady, inviscid, one-dimensional flow with heat addition, so it is allowed. Oblique shocks are two-dimensional and sound propagation is unsteady. Fanno flow needs friction, which is viscous.
