Correct answer: (C) $y-1=2(x-1)$
Explanation
**Slope of the tangent.** For $y=x^2$, the derivative is $\dfrac{dy}{dx}=2x$. At $x=1$ the slope is $m=2$.
**Equation of the tangent** through the point $(1,1)$ with slope 2 (point-slope form):
$$y-1=2(x-1)\;\Rightarrow\;y=2x-1 .$$
Option C, $y-1=2(x-1)$, is exactly this line. (Option A, $y=2x-2$, has the right slope but does not pass through $(1,1)$.)
