The symbols C, D, Vin and V0 shown in the figure denote capacitor, ideal diode, input voltage and output voltage, respectively. Which one of the following output waveforms (V0) is correct for the given input waveform (Vin)?

Capacitor and diode clamping circuit, square-wave input, and candidate outputs.

Correct answer: (A) Option A in the figure

Explanation

The diode clamps the negative output level at zero. The capacitor retains the 6 V peak-to-peak swing, so the output alternates between 0 and +6 V.
