Soil solids have specific gravity 2.65. Water density is 1000 kg/m³. With zero air voids and moisture content 10%, find soil dry density (kg/m³), to one decimal place.

Correct answer: 2086.6 to 2095
Explanation
Zero air voids means saturation. The relation $Se=wG_s$ gives $e=0.10(2.65)=0.265$. Dry density is $$\rho_d=\frac{G_s\rho_w}{1+e}=\frac{2650}{1.265}=2094.8617\ \mathrm{kg/m^3}.$$ Answer **2094.9 kg/m³**.
