An irrigation project has cultural command area 10000 ha. Rice is grown in kharif and wheat in rabi. The canal was designed for rice on 2500 ha with base period 150 days and delta 130 cm. Wheat has base period 120 days and delta 50 cm. The maximum wheat area that can be irrigated is ______ ha.

Correct answer: 5150 to 5250

Explanation

Discharge is proportional to area times water depth divided by base period. Equate seasonal demands: $A_w=2500(1.30/150)(120/0.50)=5200$ ha. This is below the command area; available discharge controls.
