GATE 2014 EC (EC2) – Question 11

Engineering Mathematics · Linear Algebra · 1 mark · Numerical answer

det(A) = 5 and det(B) = 40. Find det(AB).

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: 199 to 201

Explanation

For square matrices of the same order, determinants multiply:det(AB)=det(A)det(B). The supplied determinants5and40therefore give **200**. Matrix multiplication need not commute, but this determinant identity does not require commutativity.
