GATE 2021 PI – Question 34
Engineering Mathematics · Linear Algebra · 1 mark · Numerical answer
For real x,y and $i=\sqrt{-1}$, $(3i+1)x+(4i+4)y+5=0$. Find x to one decimal.

Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: 2.4 to 2.6
Explanation
Equate real and imaginary parts: x+4y+5 = 0 and 3x+4y = 0. Subtracting the first from the second gives 2x−5 = 0. Hence **x = 2.5**.
