GATE 2026 AG – Question 19
A 2WD tractor has driving-axle dynamic normal load 28 kN, rolling radius 0.60 m, total driving-axle torque 10.7 kN·m, wheel slip 18%,and net traction coefficient 0.35. Find the nearest driving-wheel tractive efficiency in percent.

Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: (A) 45
Explanation
Net pull is $F_n=0.35(28)=9.8$ kN. Actual speed is $v=(1-s)r\omega$,whereas axle power is $T\omega$. Hence $\eta_t=F_nv/(T\omega)=F_nr(1-s)/T=9.8(0.60)(0.82)/10.7=0.4506$. Thus **45%, A**.
