A 2WD tractor weighs24 kN with 30% front/70% rear load. On pure sand maximum traction is 13 kN. Add1.5 kN to rear axle, neglect load transfer. Find traction increase in kN, to two decimals.

Show answer and explanation Correct answer: 1.15 to 1.20
Explanation Initial driven-wheel load is $.70(24)=16.8$ kN. For unchanged soil/tire traction coefficient,$\mu=13/16.8=.7738095$. Additional driven load1.5 kN increases traction by $\Delta F=\mu(1.5)=1.160714$ kN. Rounded, the answer is **1.16 kN**.
