Which phosphorus-cycle statements are NOT correct?

  3. Like carbon, phosphorus has a gaseous phase transporting it to distant ecosystems
  4. Fertilizer application increases phosphorus transfer to oceans

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (B) Organic phosphates occur in rock and soil minerals; (C) Like carbon, phosphorus has a gaseous phase transporting it to distant ecosystems

Explanation

Mineral phosphate reservoirs are principally inorganic, so B’s “organic” description is wrong. The conventional phosphorus cycle lacks a major gaseous phase, so C is wrong; particles can still be transported atmospherically. Limitation/eutrophication and fertilizer runoff are valid. Select **B, C**.
