The GATE Grind

GATE 2015 CS (CS3) – Question 33

Software Engineering · Software Development Life Cycle Models · 1 mark · Numerical answer

A program is seeded with 100 artificial faults. Testing detects 159 faults, of which 75 are seeded. Assume real and seeded faults have the same detection distribution. Estimate undetected real faults.

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: 28

Explanation

The seeded detection fraction is 75/100=0.75. Detected real faults number 159−75=84. Equating the fractions gives total real faults 84/0.75=112, leaving 112−84=28 undetected real faults.
