Find the difference between the mean and median of the dataset 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8.

Correct answer: (C) 0.5

Explanation

The sum is twenty-four over six observations, so the mean is four. For an even-sized sorted dataset, the median is the average of the third and fourth observations: (3+4)/2=3.5. Their difference is 4−3.5=0.5, option C.
