Correct answer: (C) 31

Explanation

Each fold bisects the current width; five folds divide the original thirty-two-centimetre width into 2⁵=32 equal strips. Adjacent strips are separated by internal creases, so the number of creases is 32−1=31. Equivalently the recurrence c(n)=2c(n−1)+1 gives thirty-one after five folds. Thus C.
