GATE 2017 EE (EE2) – Question 63
Parallel generating units rated 300 MW and 400 MW have no-load-to-full-load governor speed regulations 6% and 4%, respectively. With free governor action they share 600 MW. The larger unit’s share in MW is ________.

Correct answer: 395 to 405
Explanation
With a common no-load frequency setting, each unit's load increment for a given frequency drop is proportional to its rating divided by its per-unit droop.
The two sensitivities are 300/0.06=5000 and 400/0.04=10000, so the larger unit takes twice the smaller unit's load. Dividing 600 MW in ratio 1:2 gives **400 MW** for the larger unit.
The equal no-load reference is the standard assumption behind the supplied droop-sharing data.
