It is quarter past three in your watch. The angle between the hour hand and the minute hand is ________.

  1. $0^\circ$
  2. $7.5^\circ$
  3. $15^\circ$
  4. $22.5^\circ$

Correct answer: (B) $7.5^\circ$

Explanation

At 3:15 the minute hand is at $90^\circ$ from 12. The hour hand moves $0.5^\circ$ per minute, so it is at $3\times30+15\times0.5=97.5^\circ$. The angle between them is $97.5-90=7.5^\circ$.
