In a 500 m race, P and Q have speeds in the ratio of $3:4$. Q starts the race when P has already covered 140 m.

What is the distance between P and Q (in m) when P wins the race?

  2. 40
  3. 60
  4. 140

Correct answer: (A) 20

Explanation

When Q starts, P still has $500-140=360$ m to run. In that time Q covers $\frac43\times360=480$ m, so when P finishes Q is $500-480=20$ m behind.
