A stoping block has a 200×40 m bottom section and modified RMR 50. Use the supplied Laubscher chart to choose the appropriate mining method.

Correct answer: (B) Cut-and-fill

Explanation

Hydraulic radius is area/perimeter = (200×40)/(2×200+2×40)=16.67 m. At modified RMR 50 this point lies in the chart’s supportable band. A supported method, cut-and-fill, is therefore appropriate, B. It is neither in the freely caving field nor the stable unsupported field.
