GATE 2021 EE – Question 10

General Aptitude · Analytical Aptitude: Logical Reasoning and Deduction · 2 marks · Multiple choice

Seven cars P, Q, R, S, T, U and V are parked in a row not necessarily in that order. The cars T and U should be parked next to each other. The cars S and V also should be parked next to each other, whereas P and Q cannot be parked next to each other. Q and S must be parked next to each other. R is parked to the immediate right of V. T is parked to the left of U.

Based on the above statements, the only INCORRECT option given below is:

  1. There are two cars parked in between Q and V.
  2. Q and R are not parked together.
  3. V is the only car parked in between S and R.
  4. Car P is parked at the extreme end.

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) There are two cars parked in between Q and V.

Explanation

Q and S are adjacent, S and V are adjacent and R is immediately right of V, so the four cars must appear as Q S V R. Between Q and V there is therefore only one car, S, so "two cars between Q and V" is incorrect. Q and R are separated by S and V, and V is the only car between S and R, so B and C hold. P at an extreme end is possible in the valid orders (for example P T U Q S V R).
