GATE 2022 AR — Architecture – Question 24
Indoor maximum/minimum dry-bulb temperatures are 38°C/34°C, while outdoors they are 42°C/30°C. Find thermal damping as a percentage reduction in temperature swing, to two decimal places.

Correct answer: 66.00 to 67.00
Explanation
Outdoor swing is 42−30=12°C; indoor swing is 38−34=4°C. The fraction transmitted is 4/12=1/3, so the damped fraction is 1−1/3=2/3. Damping is 66.67%. Using 33.33% would report the decrement factor rather than the percentage reduction asked for.
