Which one of the following sets of pieces can be assembled to form a square with a single round hole near the center? Pieces cannot overlap.

Four sets (A to D) of three polygon pieces each. In set A one piece has a semicircular bite on its right edge and the large piece has a semicircular bite on its top edge. In sets B and C the pieces have several small bites of different sizes. In set D no piece has a bite.

Correct answer: (A) Option A in the figure

Explanation

A round hole is made when two bites of the same radius meet along a joint. Only set A has two bites that match in size, one in the left piece and one in the large piece. Set D has no bite at all, and sets B and C have bites of different sizes that cannot form one circle.
