Correct answer: (C) 24

Explanation

Use the inclusion-exclusion principle.

**Students who like at least one of the two subjects:**
$$|M\cup E|=|M|+|E|-|M\cap E|=10+12-4=18 .$$

**Add those who like neither:**
$$18+6=\mathbf{24}.$$
