Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (B) Only (ii) can correspond to the unfolded cube in Panel I.

Explanation

Fold the four-square vertical strip into a belt around the cube; the two lateral squares close its remaining faces. Track the positions of the shaded patches as the faces rotate around their shared dashed edges.

In cube (ii), the triangular patch and the quarter-square patch have the relative position and orientation produced by this folding. Cube (i) places its L-shaped patch and stripe in an incompatible orientation; rotating the whole cube cannot change their relative orientation.

Thus **only cube (ii), option B**, can be formed.
