A city produces $40\times10^6$ kg of municipal solid waste per year. It recovers 10%, sending the rest to a single-lift 3 m landfill compacted to 550 kg/m³. Waste occupies 80% of landfill volume. Required area, to one decimal, is ______ m².

Correct answer: 27271 to 27274
Explanation
Landfilled mass is $0.90(40\times10^6)=36\times10^6$ kg. Divide by density, waste-volume fraction and lift height: $A=36\times10^6/(550\times0.8\times3)=27272.7$ m².
