Geomatics Engineering · Distance and angle measurement, levelling, traversing, triangulation, total station · 1 mark · Multiple choice

The staff reading taken on a workshop floor using a level is 0.645 m. The inverted staff reading taken to the bottom of a beam is 2.960 m. The reduced level of the floor is 40.500 m. The reduced level (expressed in m) of the bottom of the beam is

  1. 44.105
  2. 43.460
  3. 42.815
  4. 41.145

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) 44.105

Explanation

The height of instrument is40.500+0.645=41.145m. An inverted staff reading is negative, so the overhead point level is HI−(−2.960)=44.105m. Therefore **44.105m, A**. Treating the inverted reading as an ordinary positive foresight would reverse the correction.
