Complex Analysis · Conformal Mappings · 2 marks · Multiple select

On D = {|z|<1}, set $f(z)=z/(1-z)$ and $g(z)=(1+z)/(1-z)$. S₁: f(D)⊆g(D); S₂: g(D)⊆f(D). Which statements hold?

  1. S₁ is true.
  2. S₂ is true.
  3. S₂ is true and S₁ false.

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (B) S₂ is true.; (C) S₂ is true and S₁ false.

Explanation

The Cayley transform gives g(D) = {Re w > 0}. Since g = 1+2f, f(D) = {Re w > −1/2}. Thus g(D)⊂f(D), but not conversely; f(0)=0 already lies outside g(D). S₂ is true and S₁ false, so **B,C**.
