GATE 2011 CS (CS1) – Question 2

General Aptitude · Quantitative Aptitude: Algebra, Geometry and Mensuration · 1 mark · Multiple choice

If log P = (1/2) log Q = (1/3) log R, which is true?

  1. $P^2=Q^3R^2$
  2. $Q^2=PR$
  3. $Q^2=R^3P$
  4. $R=P^2Q^2$

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (B) $Q^2=PR$

Explanation

Let the common logarithm value be k. Then log P=k, log Q=2k, log R=3k. Hence log(Q²)=4k and log(PR)=k+3k=4k. Therefore Q²=PR, B, for positive logarithm arguments.
