Consider the following inequalities.

(i) $2x-1>7$

(ii) $2x-9<1$

Which one of the following expressions below satisfies the above two inequalities?

  1. $x\le-4$
  2. $-4<x\le4$
  3. $4<x<5$
  4. $x\ge5$

Correct answer: (C) $4<x<5$

Explanation

From (i), $2x>8$ so $x>4$. From (ii), $2x<10$ so $x<5$. Both hold only for $4<x<5$.
