Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (D) Fewer boys than girls qualified

Explanation

Among qualified candidates, girls account for sixty percent, leaving forty percent boys. Therefore the qualified-boy count is less than the qualified-girl count, D. The appearance percentages are sixty-five and thirty-five, so neither equal participation nor fewer boys appearing follows.
