GATE 2020 MT – Question 29

Engineering Mathematics · Calculus and vector calculus · 1 mark · Multiple choice

The functions $y=e^x$ and $y=e^{-x}$ intersect at

  1. (1,3)
  2. (−2,2)
  3. (0,1)
  4. (−1,−1)

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (C) (0,1)

Explanation

At intersection $e^x=e^{-x}$, hence $e^{2x}=1$ and x = 0 for real x. Substituting into either function gives y = 1. Therefore C, (0,1).
