A plate of width 100 cm is rolled from thickness 5 cm to 3 cm. Entry speed is 10 cm/s and width stays constant. Find exit speed in cm/s (one decimal place).
Conservation of volume flow gives $w h_i v_i=w h_f v_f$. Cancel width and solve $v_f=10(5/3)=16.6667$ cm/s, or 16.7. The decrease in cross-sectional area causes a corresponding increase in speed.
