A diesel engine uses B20 biodiesel blend,20% biodiesel by volume. Brake power10 kW, specific consumption0.26 kg/(kW h), biodiesel density880 kg/m³ and diesel density850 kg/m³. Find biodiesel volume for3 h in L (two decimals).

Correct answer: 1.80 to 1.84

Explanation

Total consumed mass is10×0.26×3=7.8 kg. Ideal volume-additive blend density=0.2(880)+0.8(850)=856 kg/m³. Blend volume=7.8/856=0.009112 m³=9.112 L. Biodiesel is20% of this volume, giving1.82 L.
