The conveyor network has two independent parallel belts before an ore bin and two independent parallel belts after it, as shown. Every belt has exponential MTBF 700 h. Find system reliability for 350 h, to two decimals.
Each belt survives 350 h with probability r=exp(−350/700)=exp(−0.5). A two-belt parallel stage survives with probability 1−(1−r)². Both stages must operate, so total reliability=[1−(1−r)²]²≈0.71433, or 0.71. Assume independent failures and no repair during the mission.
