A city has 175000 people in 2025 and grows 8.5% per decade for three decades. Water demand in 2055 is 175 L/person/day. Find daily domestic demand in million litres, to two decimals.

Explanation
Compound the population growth once per decade:175000×1.085³=223525.5969 people in 2055. Daily demand is this population times 175 litres, giving 39116979.45 litres. Divide by one million to obtain 39.11698 MLD, or 39.12 MLD. The supplied growth rate is decadal, not annual.
