GATE 2022 EE – Question 32

Power Electronics · Single and three-phase configuration of uncontrolled rectifiers · 1 mark · Numerical answer

A single-phase full-bridge diode rectifier feeds a resistive load of $50\ \Omega$ from a 200 V, 50 Hz single phase AC supply. If the diodes are ideal, then the active power, in watts, drawn by the load is ________. (round off to nearest integer).

Correct answer: 800

Explanation

The full-wave rectified voltage has the same rms value as the supply, 200 V. So $P=\frac{V_{rms}^2}{R}=\frac{200^2}{50}=800$ W.
