A vehicle travelling 12 m/s skids without rolling to rest over 15 m on a level road. Deceleration is constant and g=10 m/s². Find the tyre-road kinetic-friction coefficient, to two decimals.
From v²=u²+2as, 0=144+30a, so the deceleration magnitude is 4.8 m/s². On a level road with friction causing the deceleration, μg=4.8. Hence μ=4.8/10=0.48. Vehicle mass cancels from the force balance.
