Fluid Mechanics · Continuity, momentum and energy equations · 1 mark · Multiple select

For the Bernoulli's equation to be applicable in a fluid flow situation, which of the following conditions is/are to be satisfied:

  1. Fluid should be frictionless
  2. Fluid should be incompressible
  3. Flow should be steady
  4. Flow should be rotational

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) Fluid should be frictionless; (B) Fluid should be incompressible; (C) Flow should be steady

Explanation

Bernoulli's equation applies along a streamline for steady flow of an incompressible fluid without friction, so A, B and C are needed. The flow does not have to be rotational. For irrotational flow the equation can be used between any two points, and for rotational flow it holds only along a single streamline, so D is not a condition.
