GATE 2026 CH – Question 28

Fluid Mechanics and Mechanical Operations · Equations of continuity, motion and mechanical energy, Euler and Bernoulli equations · 1 mark · Multiple select

In which of the following condition(s), Bernoulli's equation is applicable?

  1. incompressible flow
  2. inviscid flow
  3. unsteady flow
  4. flow along a streamline

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) incompressible flow; (B) inviscid flow; (D) flow along a streamline

Explanation

The Bernoulli equation holds for steady, incompressible, inviscid flow along a streamline (no friction, no shaft work and no heat transfer). It is not valid for unsteady flow without an extra term for the time derivative, so C is not a condition for its use.
