A color model is shown in the figure with color codes: Yellow (Y), Magenta (M), Cyan (Cy), Red (R), Blue (Bl), Green (G), and Black (K).

Which one of the following options displays the color codes that are consistent with the color model?

a Venn diagram of three overlapping circles Yellow, Magenta and Cyan. The overlap of Yellow and Magenta is Red, of Yellow and Cyan is Green, of Magenta and Cyan is Blue and the common part of all three is Black. Below are four options A to D, each a rearranged Venn diagram in which a rectangle is Yellow, a rounded blob is Magenta and a tilted rectangle and a small oval together form Cyan, with the overlapping regions labelled with colour codes.
  1. Option A in the figure
  2. Option B in the figure

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) Option A in the figure

Explanation

In the model the colour of a region is fixed by the sets that contain it: Y with M gives R, Y with Cy gives G, M with Cy gives Bl and all three give K. Check each region in the options. The region inside the rectangle and the blob but outside the tilted rectangle and the oval is Y and M only, so it must be R. Options A, C and D have R there, but B has Bl, so B is out. The part of the tilted rectangle inside both the rectangle and the blob has all three sets, so it must be K, which rules out D (R). The part of the oval inside both the rectangle and the blob is also all three, so it must be K, which rules out C (Bl). Option A is consistent in every region.
