Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: (A) Glucose; (B) Lactic acid; (C) Acetic acid
Explanation
The degree of reduction per C-mol is $\gamma = 4 + \frac{H}{C} - \frac{2O}{C}$. For glucose ($CH_2O$), lactic acid ($C_3H_6O_3 = CH_2O$) and acetic acid ($C_2H_4O_2 = CH_2O$) it is 4. Formic acid ($CH_2O_2$) has $4 + 2 - 4 = 2$.
