A CNC XY-stage moves from P(200,300) to Q(800,600) mm using rapid command G00. Two directly coupled stepper motors drive X and Y lead screws; each motor maximum speed is 800 rpm and each screw pitch 0.5 mm. Find positioning time (min), to two decimals.

Correct answer: 1.4 to 1.6
Explanation
Each axis has linear speed800×0.5=400 mm/min. Travel is600 mm in X and300 mm in Y. Rapid positioning drives both concurrently, so elapsed time is max(600/400,300/400)=**1.50 min**. Adding axis times would assume sequential motion.
